HOPE IN CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH is founded on Christ's principles as revealed in the Bible, God's Word. Its faith and practice are founded on the Scriptures, and its members' vital experience is scriptural oriented.
CHRISTIAN
First and foremost, Hope in Christ Community Church is a firmly Christian church. It is founded on the person of Jesus Christ, God's Son. His teachings serve as the foundation for the church's doctrines and practices.
PROTESTANT
Although it is not a traditional adherent of any particular leader of the Protestant Reformation, Hope in Christ Community Church is established on the ideas of Protestantism. Hope in Christ Community Church wholeheartedly supports these ideals:
Faith-based justification.
The priesthood of believers.
The Bible's authority.
Religious liberty.
The separation between church and state.
It opposes the excesses and abuses of dogmatism and ecclesiastical ritualism.
FOUNDATIONAL
Following are the five core Christian teachings that Hope in Christ Community Church upholds:
The Bible's infallibility and inerrancy.
Christ's virgin birth and full divinity.
The world's sins were atoned for by Christ's death as the ultimate atonement.
The literal resurrection of the body.
Christ's second coming to Earth in body form.
EVANGELICAL
Those who uphold the core beliefs outlined in the Bible are referred to as evangelicals. These beliefs include:
The authority and inspiration of God's word.
The Trinity.
Christ's divinity and virgin birth.
Salvation by faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice.
His bodily resurrection and ascension to the Father's right hand.
The Holy Spirit's work in this world.
Christ's second coming.
The spiritual union of followers of Jesus Christ.
The NAE (National Association of Evangelicals), the largest association of Evangelicals in the USA, has a basic statement of faith with which Hope in Christ Community Church has aligned itself.
PENTECOSTAL
Hope in Christ Community Church holds to the experience of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit identified as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We believe that today the church can experience the similar infilling of the day of Pentecost. The Pentecostal experience is an enrichment of the Christian life through the power of the Holy Spirit that empowers believers to be effective witnesses of Christ. The principle distinctive of Hope in Christ Community Church as a Pentecostal church is its belief in speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance and that this is the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
CHARISMATIC
The charismata (Gk.) or gifts of the Spirit can be divided into three categories: (1) the gifts of illumination (revelation), (2) the gifts of power and (3) the gifts of utterance or inspiration. The gifts of illumination are the gifts of the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and the discerning of spirits. The gifts of power are faith, miracles, and gifts of healing. The gifts of utterance and inspiration are prophecy, tongues and interpretation. The Holy Spirit bestows these gifts and those who accept the validity of these gifts are called charismatic.
EVANGELISTIC
From its inception Hope in Christ Community Church has been a revival movement. Evangelism has been in the forefront of all its activities. The church has maintained an aggressive effort to take the message of Christ throughout the community by all means and methods. Every program of the church reflects an evangelistic attitude: revivalism, conferences, worship services, teaching, preaching and its missionary efforts.
